Well we finally got our first snowfall here on the Canadian Prairies, and as usual its very slick out there. I was wondering if anyone else has mounted any winter tires on their vehicles as of yet? I went to Tirerack.com and they suggested the Michelin Artic Alpine 235-70QR16.

Just wondering if anyone else has any experiences yet or any plans to mount different tires.

Check out the current November issue of Consumer Reports. They have a report on tires for SUV's.
The Michelin Arctic tires were not rated in this issue because it was already rated in a prior report. It does say it is highly rated though.
Go to your library and check the yearly Consumer Reports book. In the back is an index to find the previous reports for that year.

For price, and performance, consumer reports list the Dayton Timberline A/T for $55, the Kelly Safari AWR for $56 or the best for snow, is the cooper discoverer A/T at $60. You need to shop around to find these tires, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

The dayton and kelly are good in snow, the cooper is excellent, but only fair in dry braking.

Are you looking specifically for "Winter" tires? Or, are you looking for a good "Mud and Snow" tire? If it's the latter, I just bought a set of Goodyear Wrangler AT/D tires at Sam's Club for about $96 each. We actually had some snowy weather here in Texas last week and they performed very well. Now of course, I am not authority on lots of snow since it snows once in a blue moon here, but I think they are worth a look.
