I've heard of stone-chipped windshields and all, but not anything that cracked. Then again, I think an Escape owner (on the other club) mentioned this happening to her windshield. She had it replaced by an auto-glass shop.

We had a small rock hit our windshield just below the wiper and it made a small chip in the glass. We are waiting to see if it will turn into a crack.

You won't have to wait long!!
I had the same thing happen to me,a rock hit the base of the windshield.
Within 2 days time, the crack was halfway up the middle on the window and started going right, towards the passenger side of the my truck.
I found a place that came to MY house and replaced the windshield.
Cost me $260.00,this included installation.

If you get a chip or crack smaller than the size of a quarter, you can get them fixed. I have had two windshield chips fixed already that were paid for by my insurance company (Geico). They do a pretty good job- you can barely tell that there was a chip/crack and it prevents any growth of a crack. Key is to get it done right away before dirt gets in. Cost is about $45.
