I've had my 2001 white ES since July - great so far - but I do have a concern - has anyone had the foam strip come loose from between the dashboard & the windshield along the bottom? The guys in the Service Dept. say they have to take out the dashboard to replace the tape strip(!) I don't like the idea of that! any comments?
thanks

I have the same problem on my 2001 DX. I am taking it in this week for that and other problems.

Yes, my tape seal is not installed properly either. I was planning to have it fixed at the time of my next service but I didn't realize it involved removing the dash. Let us know if there are any unforeseen complications.

Rich

The trouble with removing a dash (or door panel) is that you will forever get creaks and rattles after that.

I had the too. After picking up my Trib in April, by the beginning of June I noticed the weatherstripping coming loose inside and as a result it also looked like there was a bit of a dip in the dashboard below the front window. Since the fix in June, I haven't had another problem. However, whenever I clean the inside dash, I try not to put too much pressure when I lean forward to clean the inside of the front window.

The foam strip.......I looked at mine and it seems logical the removal of the windshield would enable them to do the same???? I don't know though..

Bob

Yep, I have the loose foam strip problem at the windshield base, also. Just one more amongst all of the other quality issues, the fuel smell that won't go away despite three repair attempts being the foremost.

I had the same thing. The Mazda Rep was at the dealership and told them it was there for shipping purposes. Whether it was or not, they simply removed it and I haven't noticed one iota of difference. That was about 2000 miles ago including long highway trips. So as far as I'm concerned, it was completely unimportant. The best news is that it does not require dash removal. My dealership has made it a normal procedure now to remove the strip from all the incoming Tributes.

Good Luck
