Okay, I know that the dealers are trying to make money, and that's why they recommend you bring your car in for service according to a schedule that they make up. It's so far off from the manufacturers suggested maintenance schedule though. I took my car in at 10,000 miles for an oil change. They said I needed basic service which was $89.95, consisting of oil change, tire rotation, inspection, etc. I went for it like a dummy. Now it's been about 6,000 miles and I took the car in the other day for an oil change. The service writer said I needed an intermediate service which was $189.95. I said no, just change the oil. What a rip off! I had just had the minor service done 6,000 before! I asked her why it needed so much service, and what the intervals were, and she said every 3,750 miles it needed service (either oil change or another service). I think this is ridiculous. If I just go by what the owner's manual says, I will be okay with my warranty, right? According to the manual, not much needs to be done except changing the oil and rotating the tires until the mileage gets pretty high. How is everyone else handling the service on their Tributes?

Just doing the regular maintenance of checking and maintaining fluid levels (changing whenever necessary), tire pressure, etc. -- and these are simply do-it-yourself items, too -- and the regular oil & filter change should suffice. It's a new vehicle, so I don't believe that much service needs to be done to it. I could be wrong though, in which case I think I overpaid and should've just gotten a used vehicle if I'm going to spend that much money on maintenance service.

Upon speaking w/ Mazda customer service, wherein only 1 out of the many reps I've dealt with have above average knowledge and ability to help, as well as another Mazda dealer service manager, just keep up with the said simple regular maintenance and you'll be fine. You can even do the oil change yourself, using recommended or better oil & filter, etc., and your warranty will NOT be voided. That manual, though so often taken for granted or given less than enough credit, does account for something in my books. (Would you trust the person who designed, built & worked on your car more or the one who sells & services it?)
