My 2001 Mazda has cold morning start problems. I have changed the iac plugs upper intake gaskets and the coil packs. It starts right away then goes through a series of running fast then it lopes and speeds up again and again. I can feather the gas to keep it running, then when it is warmed up run with no missing at all.

I have the same problem. I also replaced the coolant temp sensor along with plugs, coils, IAC with no help. I took it to a Ford dealer and they ran diagnostics and also checked fuel pressure. The fuel filter is new. It still has the same symptoms. The Ford dealer suggested it "might" be lower intake gaskets since the uppers are new. They would replace them for $800+. I can do it myself but hoping to hear a better solution from someone with the same problem. Did you have the evap checked?
