My rear defroster never shuts off on its own. I have to press the button again to turn it off. Is this normal?

Even if I shut off the vehicle using the key, when I start it up again, the defroster is still on.

The manual states that it should shut off on its own, but the manual is wrong about other things.

So, which is it: Defect? Or mere annoyance?

-Dave

This seems to be the way all the Tribs and Escapes operate. I haven't checked the manual about it.

I actually like it. It means if/when I get a remote start, I can start defrosting the rear window and the windshield while finishing my morning cup of coffee.

I also used to get annoyed when I'd think the rear window was taking too long to clear, then I looked down and saw the defroster had kicked off before getting the job done.

I've used it a few times for a fogged rear window, and I never had a problem remembering to turn it off when the rear window was cleared.

James
