I'm considering the Tribute (will probably hold out for the 2002 model) and would like to know what kind of ride this vehicle has, ie. trucklike, carlike, etc. So many suv's ride like rough trucks and I really don't want a suv that rides rough and you can feel every bump in the road.

Thanks,
Rut

I strongly suggest test driving it yourself instead of relying on a bunch of strangers from the net, but for what its worth...

I think the drive is pretty good - not as good as a car, but better than most SUV's. I've also gotten quite a few compliments on the ride, both from people in the front and back seats. The longest drive I've gone for is about 6 or 7 hours, and no problems at all with sore body parts.

The handling is closer to a sedan than a truck -- that's a plus unless you're doing some serious off-roading which I doubt Tribute owners will be doing anyway. With the slightly stiffer suspension tuning, the ride gets somewhat rough (the meaty tires cushion most of the bumps) but I personally like it. The Escape has a more cushy suspension, based on my limited experience, so you'd feel less of the bumps on the road.

As far as seating comfort goes ... the front seats are very comfy although I'd prefer them to be more of buckets seats with an adjustable lumbar suppor. The rear seats, on the other hand, are okay for short trips. My friends rode in the back for about 2 hours and complained -- I haven't tried being a backseat passenger on the Tribute/Escape yet so this is based on what others have told me.

As the other member suggested, it's best to test drive the Tribute so you'll know firsthand how you like it. (Obviously, I liked it -- very much.)

The ride is better than most SUVs but not as confortable as a sedan. If you are looking for a confi ride more than a sporty ride you should look at the Escape, the Santa Fe or even the CRV.

Mazda tunned up the suspention in the Tribute so it more sport sedan like. I like it but if a compliant ride is what you are looking for in a SUV there are better options.

Anyways, as other members already said, you should test drive the car your self. Hope this helps.

I've had my Tribute for almost a year now, have over 10K miles on it and am still loving every minute. The car drives great and the visibility is the best I've had...shades over the Jeep and Chevy Blazer I've had previously. I just got back from a trip to Boston where I only saw 2 Tributes the whole time!!!! I just love driving it...and there is nothing wrong with asking a bunch of strangers on the web how they like this car...the more information you have before a major purchase, the better...because a test drive is just that...a test!!! You have the voices of experience here!! zoom zoom
