Can those of you who have installed the pollen filter give us some more information? I looked at the plate at the base of the driver's side windshield, and it looks as if I will need to remove both windshield wipers to get it off. I'm afraid I won't get them back on right. I assume the filter is then put some where under the plate and over the fresh air intake grill. What is the filter made of? Is it water proof? How long will it last before needing to be replaced? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I put the filter in myself easy took less than 10 minutes. Wipers do not come off the hard part is getting the covers for the screws off they are very fragile and scratch easy.the instructions that come with it are easy to follow. The filter is or looks just like an air filter for a car or truck. The cover over the filter seems to keep water out and looks like it will.I will replace mine every 3-6 months.

The plate at the passenger side needs to be removed NOT the one on the drivers side.

The windshield wipers DON't have to come off, start your truck(or turn key to on) and turn on your wipers, when they are in the upright position on the windshield turn the key/truck off.
Remove the 4 screws at the base of the windshield(small caps cover them).
Then remove the 4 plastic screws at the front of the plate.
thats it!!
Put the filter in and reverse the process to install the plate.

While I tend to agree with the previous response suggesting a 6 month replacement, Ford specifications called for a one year, 15,000 miles replacement.

Thanks for the input on the filters; I've just ordered one thru Mazdastuff.com. I do still have one question though. If the fresh air intake grill is on the driver's side, why is the plate on the passenger's side the one that is removed? Does the fresh air flow laterally from left to right and then down into the blower?
