Pemium Audio vs Standard Audio

Does anyone out there have the standard audio package (AM/FM/CD with 4 speakers) that comes on the ES? I have only heard the Premium Stereo package. The reason why I ask is that I can get a Tribute right NOW but I need to go with no premium. Ordering will now put me out to December.

For those of you who have heard/seen both:

1. Is the sound that much different?

2. Does the gearshift block the standard mroe or less than the premium?

3. What about installing aftermarket speakers? Note, the power s different by about 100wats I think. Not sure if it is wired for tweeters either way.

I have heard both.I'm not an afficionato when it comes to "premium sound" but I do know what I like.
I test drove an ES with the premium sound package and I tested the sound effectively enough to get some "sound" rebuffs from my fellow occupants. It sounded great!
I bought a LX with the standard sound package and I love the sound out of it too!The sound travels to every part of the vehicle without any noticeable difference.Like I said,I'm not an expert but I would save the money and go with the standard sound.
The gear shift blocks only the volume control in both the ES and LX.
I don't know about adding speakers or tweeters.Like I said........
Hope this helps.I hope you enjoy your choice as much as I'm enjoying mine!

The best reason to get the premium audio system is it has all the speakers you would ever want and a in-dash six CD player. All of which are covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. Anything you could add aftermarket wouldn't come with that peace of mind. I also think the audio system is reasonably priced for what you get.

I was having the same dilemma when I got my Trib - there was one on the lot almost exactly as I wanted (but with no premium audio) I really didn't want to wait, so I listened to both systems carefully. I can tell you this:

1. The sound is fuller with the upgrade, but both systems get fuzzy at high volumes.

2. The gearshift problem is much less with the standard radio, since it is mounted in the top section of the radio area (with a CD storage area beneath)

3. I too was thinking about an after market system, but now that I've had my vehicle almost 2 months, I think it sounds ok and I probably will avoid the hassle.

I guess the decision depends mostly on how long you can wait (I couldn't!) Good luck!
