I bought my Tribute LX 2 weeks ago, I found some oil(black in color) all over the front wheels after driving for a couple of days, when I told this to the service dept they said that it's some kind of shiny material that they put on the new tires, but there was nothing on the rear wheels(does it mean they are not new). Any of you noticed some thing like this.

I believe it is brake pad dust. Mine does the same thing. It should become less of a problem as the pads wear in. I had the same problem on my Passat so it didn't seem strange to see it on the Tribute. It only happens on the disc brakes which are only on the front.

I had thought this was brake dust. Saw this on my 91 Civic too. Tribute is front disc and rear drum brakes. Don't know if this means anything as far as how much dust is normal and if it will continue...

Anyone else confirm this is what it is? Or as importantly, best way to clean it up? Will it lessen with more miles?
