Mazda Cust. Service--The Best

Recently I wrote a letter to Mazda Customer Service because I had never received my "welcome kit" that has a quick owner's reference & touch up paint (I bought mine on March 27). Less than a week after I mailed the letter I got a phone call saying that YES, I should have received a box--apparently there was some mix-up on the dealer's end that also kept me from receiving the surveys that I had been promised. The cust. service rep was very kind (she actually called me back twice on this issue).

This was less than a week ago. Yesterday I got my first survey which I was happy to complete because my dealership treats me like a queen. Today I got a box--not the one I was expecting, but one that contains a cute little 35mm camera. This one is in appreciation for my being a repeat Mazda customer.

I still haven't gotten the box that I wanted, but I am sure it's in the proverbial mail.

This is consistent with the excellent customer service we received with the new 96 626 LX-V6 we bought in Feb 96. We had a problem with the dealership fixing some things that they promised. After making a 110 mile drive to the dealership and finding out that they couldn't help us although we had everything pre-arranged, we wrote a not so polite letter to Mazda cust. service. Within a week, the dealership couldn't do enough to help us--gave us money for gas, a new 626 to drive while front/rear bumpers were being replaced/patined and sunroof rattle fixed, and even fixed (for free) a blemish we had gotten on our painted mirror that was our fault. They even filled the tank when we picked up the car after it was fixed (and it was fixed satisfactorily the first time). They have since lost their Mazda franchise--we were told because of repeat complaints.

So if you have a complaint about your dealership or with your car, try writing a letter. It has certainly helped with the petty problems we've had with our Tribby so far, but it also helped with more serious problems that we had with the dealership when we bought our 626.

Mazda must like you a lot better than me. The last reply I received from Mazda HQ essentially said that the dealers were independent contractors and whatever problems I had were between the dealer and me. I'm sure this excludes warranty problems, but none the less it was enough to make me change to another vehicle (after 4 Mazdas). I have also never been given any consideration for being a repeat buyer - not even a thank you post card! Good for you and your positive experience, maybe they've seen the light and don't mind doing a little hiney kissing if it'll sell another vehicle. Had they been nicer to me I'd probably be behind the wheel of a Tribute instead of another vehicle. Happy zooming!

This is true! We had such a bad experience with a Mazda dealer (Garber Mazda in Saginaw, MI) when trying to get our trib. After we got the trib from another dealer in Detroit we wrote a nasty letter to Mazda Corp. and they called like a week later apologizing, then we got some stuff in the mail and guess what: Garber Mazda isn't Mazda anymore! they sale Hyindays!

We were told by Mazda Corp. that it wasn't the first time somebody complained about them and that they would take care of them... I guess they did.

So if you have bad experiences make sure you let Mazda Corp. know about it, it works.

I agree - write to Mazda about any problem you have. My Tribute was delivered with only two of the four rub strips on the roof ribs. The dealer ordered them and could not get them. After a few months passed, I wrote a letter to Mazda and they arrived at the dealership very shortly after.

Squeeky wheels get the grease.

I hate to say this but I haven't had a good experience with Mazda. I have been loving my Trib until yesterday when the engine stalled out on me. I was lucky to be on a side street and could coast over to the side of the road. However, since I drive about 45 miles per day on the interstate, I knew I had to get this fixed pronto. I took it to my local dealer who after running a diagnostic said "We can't reproduce what happened." They called Mazda HQ and were told not to fix it. I called Mazda customer service and got basically the same story - there are no recalls or alerts for my VIN. They told me that if it happens again to have it towed in. When I asked what to do the next time this happens (and I'm on the interstate with semis) I was told to throw it into neutral and coast!!!
I asked if I should get extra insurance and they said that "It wouldn't be a bad idea." I couldn't believe it. I saved for this Trib, paid cash and now I'm afraid to drive it. I am certainly afraid to drive with someone else as a passenger. Does anyone know what we can do to get Mazda to recognize that there is a problem that needs to be fixed - before someone is injured or killed while they're coasting??? No longer zooming...........

I hate to say this but my experience with Mazda has not been positive. I've been absolutely loving my Trib until yesterday when the engine stalled on me. I was lucky to be on a side street and was able to coast over to the side of the road out of harm's way. However, I drive 45 miles a day on the interstate and knew that I had to get this fixed pronto. I took it to my local dealer (where I bought it) and they could not "reproduce" what happened. Mazda HQ told them there was no fix at this time. I called Mazda Customer Service and was told that there were no alerts or recalls on my VIN at this time and there was nothing to be done. I asked what I should do the next time I'm on the interstate with semis and was told to shift it into neutral and coast!!! I asked if I should get some extra insurance coverage and was told that I could do that!!! I saved and paid cash for this Trib and now I am afraid to drive it. I am cartainly afraid to carry passengers. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix or does anyone know how we can put pressure on Mazda to realize this is not an isolated incident? I've had my Trib since November and have been reading about this stalling problem since then. I don't think it should take a fatal accident for Mazda to take responsibility for a fix. No longer zooming.....

FYI.....the fuel injection cleaning action of the Techron is the same in 87 as it is in mid and top grade....unless you live at an altitude above 10,000 ft elevation OR are hauling a heavy load, in mountains loaded....you're not doing the engine any good with mid-grade. The higher the octane the higher the "flash point" of the fuel meaning the possibility of excess carbon buildup and eventually a valve ping/knock can happen. I don't think going just the mid-grade would hurt....but definitely higher will. Even our owners booklet says that using higher octane can harm your engine.

Bob

I would recommend that you start doing the documentation necessary to enact your Lemon Law to have Mazda buy back your car if they say it can't be fixed. Usually there is a certain # of times you have to have the car in before the state can make the mfg. buy the car back. ALSO, if the problem is a safety-related problem (certainly stalling is one of those), there may be fewer times you have to take it in.

So one of the times is when you took it in for this problem. The next time you take it in, print out some of the posts from folks here with their fixes so that your service dept. might have something to go on.

ALSO, I think you can file a report with NHTSA via their web site. Do that and print it out. Mail it, with a not so polite letter, to Mazda.

We had a really bad experience with a Chevrolet Silverado that was ultimately purchased back through the GA lemon law program. We came out OK--got every penny back that we spent, including a small amount of interest, accessories, etc.

Good luck.

I'd try another dealer....AND put in a complaint with the factory via registered letter to the Irvine, Ca...address in your booklet. Also...call Mazda back and ask for a supervisor...they are a direct link under the Operations Mgr. for National CSI/relations. I'd call...wait on hold, ask for a supervisor....explain without "ins." cracks even though you are correct in your sarcastic thoughts/remarks.

As for Lemon Law...too costly, you don't qualify yet...and this problem of stalling IS in a TSB...tech service bulletin....if you go back in the club you'll find many complaints/subsequent fix for your tribute....

F.Y.I. I had one stall....restarted fine and I took a bottle of Chevron W/Techtron fuel injection/system cleaner and sure enough I must have had a tank of bad gas or something....after that tank I was noticing very smooth performance...and it hasn't stalled since. Fuel is a BIG blame for many stalls....especially during city driving w/a/c on. One thing I never do is fill when the truck is there pumping gas into the tanks and never buy gas from generic or low turnover stations. Try to get gas in main stations....don't use Hess or Citgo as they were rated poor. Scary part is CITGO fuels most airlines....:o( and I take a flight next week...

:o)

Bob
