Regarding the below mentioned problem of my Mazda 626 lX 1995 MODEL, where the car starts hard and cranks before starting and also sometimes dies in the middle. Pat suggested to check the battery and the alternator. I had the car's engine diagonised at firestone. The results say three things. REMOVE AND REPLACE FUEL REGULATOR, FUEL PRESSURE OIL CHANGE IGNITION PARTS (TAILOR RES WIRES, DIST CAP, ROTOR REPLACE CAP, DISTRIBUTOR, REMOVE & REPLACE CABLE SET, IGNITION FUEL FILTER. I need your suggestions here. For starting problem, How does the FUEL LEAKAGE affect? and also Fuel Filter? Are they that neccessary to replace? The car otherwise works good. Ignition parts makes sense since they weren't changed since the car was bought. What do you say? I think if I change the ignition parts that would make the car start at the first ignition smoothly. Please let me know your thoughts. All three together costs a lot. vasu

Can you tell us more about the car and problem? mileage? 4 or 6 cylinder? Standard or auto tranny? Any funny sounds? (If so, do the change with RPM increase?) Does it only have trouble at starting or does it die when idling or in gear? Have any of the parts mentioned below been replaced within the last 40K miles? I'd start with the fuel filter, its $10-15 if you do it yourself. If that doesn't work, change the plugs and wires. My 93 had the same problem. Shaun 93 626 ES 01 MP3

Shanu, The car is 1995 mazda 626 lx. Mileage is 93k. The car works perfectly fine and no sounds and not unusual behaviour. Only trouble is during starting and yes, it just stopped in gear & idling four times. But when I start the car, it starts again and everything goes fine from there. Running is good. Even I think the plug wires, cap and distribution rotor should be replaced. These parts are all originals and have not been replaced before. vasu

Vasu, It sounds like you are on the right track. I only asked about the number of cylinders because the V-6 engine needs new wires every 30-40K miles. Again, I would start with the cheapest parts first, just in case. Also, buy a Haynes manual and try to do the work yourself, it will save you alot of money. Shaun vasu uppuluri
