I'd like to get an opinion for a price on a Tribute from a dealer - 2001 LX model, 4WD, moonroof, 6 cd player w/cassette, tow package, does NOT have ABS, and has 8,000 miles. It was a factory demo. They're asking $25k - what do you think? With 8k miles, I think it should be at least $3k lower. Any thoughts appreciated!

It sounds like the dealer is asking for more than the LX would have listed for oringinally. They would would not get my business.

I think a 10% depreciation (at a minimum) would be appropriate, but then it's a seller's market, and the dealer will probably get what they're asking from someone that doesn't want to wait on a new one.

I purchased almost the same vehicle in December (LX-4WD W/Tow, 6CD, ABS) except mine had ABS & Side AirBag but no Sunroof. Brand new (4 miles), I paid less than the $22,000 you are asking them to accept. $25,000 is well over MSRP for that Vehicle. Edmunds lists the True Market Value (TMV) price for a new Tribute with those options at $24,091. Tribute's were about $600 cheaper when first introduced so TMV on a vehicle delivered early in the model year should be about $23,500 if new. I would definately pay less than $22,000 for one with 8000 miles.

A demo vehicle should be normally discounted as if it were used but it is hard to get a dealer to accept that amount. A dealer will make a big deal about it never being titled - so what. A demo gets driven very hard, the engine is not broken in properly and has been used by many, many people. Demo vehicles are often the worst deals available since dealers want to cover costs. On demos, the dealer paid holding costs and lost the full holdback amount and still has overhead and commissions to pay. A demos cost to the dealer is well over invoice rather than the usual under invoice cost.

Suggest you find a different dealer and vehicle.

Two relatively close dealers you might want to check are Preston Mazda over on the eastern shore (Troy Whaley 410-673-7171) or Schaefer & Strohminger in Baltimore (Gregory Vovak 410-746-0549). Greg sold me mine for $1000 over invoice and Troy was willing to match that price if I bought it there. Both are worth a call if you haven?t bought the demo already. Zoom Zoom

As per Mazda's website, $24,405 for a BRAND NEW LX-V6 you just described. 8,000 miles is like 7-8 months being driven (let's just say), 3 oil changes, wear and tear on the tires, brakes, etc. Too bad Kelly Blue Book doesn't have blue book values for a slightly used Tribute just yet, otherwise you could point that out to the dealer and negotiate a fair price. ($25K isn't a fair price.)

They are on crack unless it's 25k with tax and title. I got mine for $23,500 + TTL with exactly the same as above. With only 250 miles on it.
