Yes, this one was discussed in earlier posts. I have addressed this with the dealer on two occasions without results.
Basically, they claim that everything checks out on the suspension and front-end. All was retightened. I have learned to live with this one, but would still like it fixed if anybody has had success trying. Please keep us posted if you attempt service.

Unfortunately, no search capability on this site. I previously outlined my fix for identical noise (given obvious descriptive limitations).
Find the edge where the outer body cladding comes in contact with the cars rocker panel at door threshold. When the car turns, the body torques naturally but apparently, the cladding does so at a slightly different rate and binds right where the edge meets the threshold body. This might be true as well elsewhere along the cladding/body interface. You can probably reproduce the sound by leaning or pressing firmly against the cladding exerting a force into the door and angled slightly up. Keep experimenting until noise is reproduced consistently and note area.
Once i identified this as the problem (to my wife's amazement) in used about 2 or 3 small wedges of a silicone shim which i had collected to shim a mirror inatallation in our home. These shims, oriented vertically, keep the cladding edge far enough away from threshold so they move independently and freely...thus eliminating the binding, snapping-like sound.

Hmmmm, sounds like a strut problem. The top end of the strut now is a plastic piece than can duplicate the exact noise you describe. To fix this the strut "cap" must be removed and the assembly has to get a new piece or they'll replace the entire strut. I've MANY, MANY times heard this and sometimes it is mistaken for a bad cv joint but looking at the vehicle strut will tell nothing....only driving and duplicating the issue will make 'em aware. This by the way was very, very common on the 90-94 Protege'....Good lUck..

Bob

Happens with my LX but not all the time. Mostly when I start out from a parking spot and have to turn the wheel. Can't tell what side it is coming from.
