ES-FWD - 3400 miles, fuel smell just started,
17-18 mpg city, 23-24 mpg hiway, less when pulling
boat. Haven't been on long trip with boat, but will in
June. I will report "towing mileage" then. No other
issues. Still love my Trib & would reccomend it to anyone
looking for a roomy but compact SUV with plenty of power!

LX-V6 4WD--1990 miles. Combo City/highway around
19 MPG. Also had rubber trim over passenger side
windows replaced (Gloobia--don't blame your dogs--my lab
was only in the vehicle once and he was not
responsible) and had broken gas cap replaced. No problems,
otherwise. I really enjoy driving this vehicle.

ES V6 4WD -- 1600 miles. Still getting only 15
mpg on 100% in-town driving, but not complaining.
First real road trip coming up in 2 weeks -- anxious to
see what that does.

Only issue is a mild case
of the fuel smell (parts are in, and am going in
Tuesday for the repair). No other issues, problems or
complaints. Did have a creak in the rear tailgate, and after
unsuccesful attempts to adjust the latch post, I shot some
white grease into the latch mechanism itself, and the
creak disappeared (don't I feel stupid!). Everything
feels tight as a drum now. Great car, great value -- we
love it!

Just passed 10,000 miles on this trip, in our ES
V6. We averaged 21mph with mostly rural and highway
miles, highway @ 75mph. Considering the 20-35mph
headwind we ran yesterday in, I consider these fine
numbers.

3750 Miles since Oct 31 on my ES. Love it!

I have recorded EVERY tank of gas and milage. The
lowest was 15.5 mpg, the highest was 24.3. Most of my
driving is in-town, rarely do I get to stretch its
legs.

It goes to the Mazda shop tomorrow morning for the
second fuel smell fix. The first "fix" was the first
part of February, before there was an official TSB.
The service manger claims the gaskets of the "era"
were not the TSB-specific gaskets, so they will try
again.

Other than that, NO complaints what-so-ever!

Oh
yeah, there is a small amount of rust on the base of my
antenna too. I will ask for a replacement tomorrow. A
VERY minor detail.

By the way, I finally had
my 2nd Tribute sighting just a week ago. I thought
mine was the only one in northern Indiana.

I have been luvin' my Tribute for 4 months, now.
I track every fill-up. With a mixture of city and
highway driving, I consistently get 16.4 16.8. The best I
ever got was on a long (1 1/2 hour) highway trip 18.1.
I use Mobile regular. The service manager suggested
I switch to 89 octane. Does anyone else have this
poor mpg experience.

Total of 3200 miles so far. Pi$$ poor fuel
consumption, clocking at ~15mpg city driving. Highway driving
is better with ~21-23mpg @65-80mph My friend's '99
Vette does better in both counts, and that has an
8-cylinder monster engine in it, hehe. Both my friend and I
have fun driving, so we could theoretically get better
results if we eased off the pedal.

I only use 87
octane (Amoco regular), never 89. As per owner's manual,
there's no need to use 89, but to each his own, right?

My gas mileage made a significant improvement
around 5K miles, and now, with over 11K miles, I average
20 mpg around town and 23 mpg on the highway.

There could be a few other factors (at 47, I just don't
have the need to be first off the line anymore) and
I've gotten over the need to feel that great
acceleration from the V-6.

Idling seems to be a
serious culprit also. As an EMT I usually leave the Trib
running when I'm working a wreck. That always seemed to
give me some poor gas mileage. Now, I just leave the
flashers on but kill the engine. I've never had any
trouble getting it to restart, but it sure has helped the
gas mileage.

I also have noticed a bit of
improvement running some fuel injector cleaner through about
once a month.

I feel confident you will see an
improvement over time, many other owners have reported
similar improvements as well.

I haqve 75% hwy and 25% city on my ES V6. Given
that it was winter, I still got approx. 22-23 mpg. I
am hoping the onset of spring/summer will increase
it somewhat.

7000 miles now. no issues with
fuel smell

The dealer suggested using middle grade 89
octane. I also use Amoco only. A good friend of mine was
telling me to just use what the manual suggests- that
going with the higher octane will do more damage than
good to the engine. So yesterday I filled up with 87
octane. My gas bill on my Camry was choking me having to
fill up with premium all the time. The car ran like
garbage without premium and pinged all the time.
I'll
be glad to be paying less at the pump.

My ES Trib is still fairly new with only 2000
miles on it. We just returned from a 1000 mile road
trip this weekend and averaged 22 to 24 MPG at average
speeds of 70-73MPH. The fuel light would come on around
305 miles and we would fill up around 320 to 330
miles on the trip odometer. We used the A/C for about
half of the trip. I'm sure with no A/C and holding the
speed to 70MPH would yield 25MPG, not too bad IMO. Our
city MPG has averaged 17 to 19. Overall, the MPG is
still better than most other SUV's out there.

I'm around 8k miles on my LX 4wd Trib, but
haven't seen any significant improvement on the gas
mileage. I'm getting about 15/16 city and around 20 at
best on highway w/o AC on. I have noticed very touchy
acceleration. I'll start pressing on the accelerator with no
response; continue to press on the accelerator and suddenly
the car will lurch forward. It's almost like suddenly
releasing the clutch on a munual transmission car. I'm sure
this has an impact on the gas mileage. I've brought it
to the dealer, but they gave me the "it's normal"
run around.

Anyone else experiencing this?
