Over the weekend, I finally got my set of Tokico Illumuna Adjustable struts and Eibach Pro-Kit springs installed. The struts are for the 93-97 626 and the springs are for 98-01 626.
The fit was perfect and the difference in handling is incredible. The suspension is stiffer, but definately not as stiff as my RX-7. Currently the struts are set to the stiffest setting. Since I'm used to my RX-7 suspension, I will leave the setting at the stiffest position, but the softest position should be more acceptable for those with a more sensitive rear end.
Road feel is translated to the interior, but I also pump the tires to 40 psi for regular street driving. A lower tire pressure would soften the ride a little more. The car was only lowered about .75". I would've liked it to have been lowered by 1.5", but it's not that big of a deal.
Handling is great. There's a 160 degree turn I have to make sometimes. I usually have to turn off the traction control to be able to take the turn at relatively high speeds to prevent the system from engaging the brakes. With the new suspension, the brakes were never engaged when I forgot to turn off the traction control.
Also, the car seems to have significantly more grip and control in the turns with little hint of understeer or push.

Cheers

I could've told you to avoid Eibach. They seem to take a more concervative approach to lowering some vehicles. A friend got some Eibach springs for a 94 Toyota Camry and you can't even notice.

I'm all for Intrax.

I was told that the Intraks don't last as long and they start to sag as soon as a couple of years. I was going to go with the matching Tokico springs, but I already had the Eibachs and didn't want to pay the restocking fee.

The owner of the company that sold me the parts said that he's sold many tokico/eibach combos and all his customers have been very happy. Also, I think that mixing the 93-97 struts with the 98+ springs is the reason for the small lowering measurement.

Anyway, I'm happy with the combo and one can't go wrong with Eibach for springs.

I don't know the difference (if any) between the US spec and the J spec 626, but I got my parts from SP Motorsports. Try a search on the net. I have posted their website on this list many times already.

Cheers

Intrax start sagging eh? Cool, heh. I should probably buy some aftermarket shocks/struts then to keep from riding on the factory's.

I have a 98 and i am wondering if struts from a 93-97 will fit on my car? I know that the ground control coilovers will fit. If the struts do fit, does anyone have any good recommendations for adjustable ones?
thanks

I installed Tokico Illuminas for the 93-97 626 along with a set of Eibach Pro-kit springs for the 98+ 626 on my 2000. I believe that many parts from the 93-97 626 will fit the 98+ 626. So far the ride has been great. Improved handling is instantly notice with the first turn.

I can't really comment on the ride quality of the GC coilovers, but if you want a low ride, I would recommend it. The Eibachs will drop the car 1.5", but the Tokicos will raise the car about .5". I think my car is still settling in and hasn't found it's natural position yet.

Initally, after the install the car dropped .75" all around, but the last time I checked, the rear has been raised to almost stock position and the front has dropped a total of 1.5".

hmmm...

I will check again tonight for changes in clearance.
