The indicator will then change from P to R. The car does back up and when you put it in drives the back up lights go off. What would cause this?

The oil came out the color of mustard...never seen anything like it!

After doing that work, the car will start and run, but 1)won't idle, and 2) when driving it around the block and trying to accelerate it bogs down.

Any suggestions on what to check next?

Thanks!
Bill
<><

I haven't upgraded anything in my 6 yet and was wandering if the stock bose sound system has the needed sub output or if i'd have to buy a new head unit. I know i obviously need an amp to power the subs, but was mainly wandering if the bose system has the ability to add a amp or sub output?

Tribute Hybrid Headlight Problem

Hi all,

I have a 2008 Mazda Tribute Hybrid Grand Touring. My headlights are pretty terrible. I drive a lot in the mountains and open roads and would like to figure out how I might fix my problem, so I don't hit a deer, elk or horse at night!!

1. When I put on my high beams, they create a thin light pattern that is not very wide and about 3 feet high that doesn't light up the road very well. I am wondering if there were any problems with the headlight housings for this model that would cause my headlights to do this rather than put out a wider and higher beam?

2. This makes it seem like the lights are DIM?? Currently, I have installed Sylvania Silverstar Ultras and it has not helped.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What do you think if I ordered another pair of headlight housings and installed? Might that refocus my light better? I thought that I read in another forum that the headlight bulb recommended for this model, the H13/9008, was actually the wrong bulb?? Maybe that is causing the poor light field? Does anyone know what bulb might work?

I have never had an accident with this vehicle, so I don't believe that the housing was ever bent or repositioned. I did take them to the local Mazda dealer and have them checked, they said they were fine. And that I bought a 4mm socket to try to adjust the height, but only raised the height of the thin light pattern.

So, I would like to know if anyone has experienced this and found a fix. I am on the verge of purchasing an aftermarket HID kit, but wonder if I would just have a brighter, small, thin patch of light?

Thank you for any ideas,

Arlie

I bought a used 2007 Mazda 3 used about 2 days ago. I did not come with a owners manual and I am attempting to find what options were installed from the factory. I heard that the vin # can breakdown to all the options installed by the factory??? But the biggest thing I am trying to find out is if it came with keyless entry. The seller only had 1 key to go with the car and it was not the original owner so they do not know if the car came keyless or not. The car does have power windows and locks, ac, automatic trans, 6 disk CD changer. So does anyone know if this package included the keyless entry?

Farting Noise When Applying Brake

I have a 2010 Mazda Tribute and tonight when I was coming down a hill (not very steep) I applied the brakes and a very distinct noise that sounded like a fart came from the passenger side wheel well. At first I thought it was my husband LOL. When we got down the road, I hit the brakes again at a stop sign and it happened again but not as loud as the first time. It did not do it again the entire way home. I don't know if it has happened before because I usually have the radio on, and I probably wouldn't have heard it.

I only have 24k miles on this vehicle and am still under warranty. I've already had to have the transmission replaced (about 6k miles ago) because of some bad factory setting in the computer.

Any idea what could this noise be? Has anyone else had this happen? I searched online and did find one instance of someone having a similar problem but it was not a Mazda.

Should I take it into the dealership or wait and see if it happens again? Any advice is appreciated.

Misfire On Cylinder 1

My step daughter has a 2001 Tribute with the 6 cyl engine. Over the holidays she drove it home from college and the check engine light was on. I had it put on the diag machine and it was misfiring on cylinder 1 and 5. I replaced the individual coils on both and it ran fine. Then one nite she took it out in the rain and it started acting up again. The next morning I drove it and it ran fine. She took it back to school but the day after she got back it started doing it again (dry weather). I have brought it back home with me and had it put on the diag machine again. Cylinder 1 misfiring again. My wife then informed me that they have had this problem since they bought the car for her in high school, that every time it rained, it ran rough and the Check engine light came on but would then run okay the day after it rained. They have had it looked at several times to no avail. This sounds like an exposed wire that is shorting out (And let me preface here that I am not a mechanic, but like being a DYIer). I am going to pull the manifold cover off again and try to trouble shoot. ANyone out there have this issue before or any suggestions? Thanks for any input.

planning on selling it soon,

Hey new guy here, just thought i'd introduce myself. i'm from mass and I recently bought a 95 mx5 miata.

The car is black and has 85k, it is a standard but unfortunately the wheels were stolen so it's sitting on 4 donuts. The car needs some minor work, mechanically it's perfect, needs a new front bumper, new rear finish panel and the rear bumper needs to be repainted, the rest of the car is actually in PERFECT condition, so is the interior. Now I was wondering if maybe it came with the bbs wheels(any help on this would be great) I ran the VIN but I could only get the basic info on the car.

I'm planning on selling it soon, so would like to get every detail right. Thanks in advance for all the tips and advice

Happy Holidays

Mazda 6 2.3, Put Too Much Oil In Engine

I have a 2007 Mazda 6, 2.3liter, I did the oil change today. The clerk at the parts store told me that this engine takes 5 qts. So I poured all 5 qts in. I tried to drive it around the block, and it started to spew white smoke, and was powerless. I got it back home & turned off the engine. At first I was perplexed as to what was going on. Then it hit me that it was probably too much oil. I called a different parts store, & they told me the same, "5qts". I asked if he was sure, so he checked a mfg. website, & found that it calls for 4.5qts. I plan to drain the excess oil in the morning & clean the plugs.
Is there anything else I should check? Air filter box, breather tube, pvc?

Could driving it around the block have caused any serious damage?

Thank you in advance for any & all answers!

P2187 And P2189 Codes

The Check Engine light on my 2005 MPV with 89K miles, has been coming on. I'm getting either P2187 (System too lean at idle bank 1) or P2189 (System too lean at idle bank 2) codes.

I removed the MAFS and sprayed it with electronic contact cleaner, but that did not resolve it.

The CE light sometimes turns off by itself, and it is more likely to come back on when the weather is wet. That leads me to think there may be a bad contact somewhere, but if its not the MAFS, what can it be?

The engine runs fine; idling, cold-start, acceleration, etc are fine.

I'm looking for suggestions on what can be causing the codes before I go to the dealer. Thanks!

Car Runs Sluggish And 21mpg Performance :(

I have a Mazda Protege, 1999, Automatic Transmission. It is in really good condition. A few month ago I purchased it used, it had 3 previous owners and CarFax showed it was well maintained by the first owner who had it for almost 8 years. Last two owners, I have no clue.
Afetr buying it, I changed its Timing Belt for the first time in 123500 Miles. Everything is fine but the car is Sluggish and "it feels" like I am driving it with hand brake half on. Initial acceleration is good (especially without any other passengers) but after few seconds the transmission shifts up, I miss acceleration and it runs like a very old car. Also gas mileage is 21 MPG (for City/Hwy mix) which I think is not good. Wonderfully its MPG drops a little bit in all Highway trips! Air Filter is good too.
Despite I know my car is old but still I want to fix this problem. People say it would be due to Tuning or Front Wheels Alignment or Injection Computer failure but these are just guesses. Thanks for any advice.

ps. I posted this to few Protege clubs, I hope it is not against forum policy.

Heating Issue

Hello all,
I have a 97 Millenia that blows cold air even when the thermostat setting is set to 90. Need to narrow down what's causing the problem and if it's a DIY repair.
No visible coolant leaks in the inside of the car that would suggest a bad heater core; both heater hoses entering / exiting the heater core to the engine are hot suggesting coolant is flowing thru the core; no issues with car over heating from a bad thermostat. I've heard of blend door acuators failing or sticking but I don't have a clue of where it's located on engine side or under dash panel near the core. Given all other things are fine, could the blend door be my issue? Has anyone experienced this before? Appreciate any feedback....thanks!

signed "cold milly in upstate sc"
