I heard on tv today that ford was recalling millions of vehicles with a faulty ignition. I was wondering if this might be the cure to the stalling problem.

I have about 185 miles on it & have just under 1/2 tank left(18 gallon tank). I have the overhead trip computer display thing that computes the avg MPG, miles til empty, outside temp & compass direction etc. the Avg while traveling at hwy speed was 18.7 mpg.
otherwise I love it so far, especially the steering wheel radio controls (something I knew was coming with it, but could care less about it until I actually used them and see now the convienience and safety features they give)

Hi Tinoman,

I am glad to hear that things are going well with your Liberty. At least the gas prices are down a bit from earlier in the summer-it doesn't hurt quite as much to keep filling the tank.

I got to hear the news on the Ford recall....Alas, it won't apply to us! It evidently was an old case (5 yrs of discussions!) due to a faulty ignition switch which caused a fatal accident of an elderly couple while driving a Tempo on the highway....They were going at 70 and the engine just turned off! (boy does that sound familiar). The recall is limited to various ford vehicles for model years 1983 - 1995.

It really does make you wonder if Ford changed their ignition technology in 1996 to something completely different. Or if they changed to another ignition switch that is more or less the same as the problem one...

Thank you Tinoman for keeping your ears open and giving us a heads up! I appreciate it!

Lily11224

Tribute/Escape Ignition is not the general ignition that is involved. I checked today...
The ignition is a part built only for Tribute/Escape....eventually it'll go into the next generation 626 too.

:o)
Bob

Hi Tinoman!

How is that Liberty treating you??? And how much gas have you consumed already?

Thanks for the heads up on the Ford ignition recall. I just went to their site but did not find anything about a recall. The most recent press releases they had were regarding the Focus and dated August 2nd.

I am going to check out CNN before I leave-hopefully they will have some word on the ignition issue.

Lily11224
