I have a 95 protege and a few weeks ago i was just driving and suddenly it wouldn't accelerate anymore. When I floor it and get the rpm up it will eventually go (takes forever and people in traffic get ****) and will accelerate at 45mph+ but at slow speeds it will not. I had a similar problem with it about a year ago except it wouldn't accelerate at all even at a high rpm. Turned out to be the distributor cap was cracked and after I had it replaced it was fine. I looked at the distributor cap now and it is not cracked and I have no idea what it could be. My dad says possibly the timing belt but everything he has tried has proven to be wrong. Any ideas??

Sounds like the same issue I am having right now.I have a 97 with the 1.5.Was running perfectly except the notorious boost signal code.I changed the map sensor, then it died.I think I have a cracked cap as well.It looks old and was badly corroded.Sounds like its arcing inside the cap thats waht makes me think its cracked. Now your cap could have cracked again. The cheap ones dont last long.I am getting a new cap tomorrow then will try to get it running again.Mine ran great before this.I am selling the car since I have done all the major maintenance on it.
