headlight question

A few thousand posts back (hehe), there was a question about the bulb type used for the headlights. In my manual, it states that it's a 9007 type bulb. The member at that time also stated this, but when he/she bought a replacement bulb, it didn't fit. (Someone then posted that it's not a 9007, but rather an HB2/H4/9003. The Escape online manual also states HB2.)<br><br>Anyway, I'll assume it's a misprint, but my question is this: had anyone replaced the headlight bulbs w/ "H4" bulbs that have a modestly higher output (i.e. 85watts perhaps?) The foglamps help the immediate surrounding visibility a lot, but the stock headlights don't seem to do so well ... kinda short distance in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to blind oncoming drivers w/ glare or use those blue/white bulbs, but rather a brighter low beam. (Personally, I can't stand the glare produced by most aftermarket blue/white bulbs.)<br><br>Any info would be most appreciated. :)

Orliec, I snipped the below info from a post made on the Escape club long ago. The bulbs are the HB2/9003/H4 type not 9007. Easy to replace in less than 10 minutes, I put in 85/75w super white bulbs about 3 months ago. Very bright, no problems.

Where did you pick up the 85/75W super white ? Also, if you have you driven for extended period with them on, do they affect the Headlamp in anyway ? Just curious if they would become too hot to melt the housing or something

Got them at eBay. Other than brighter and whiter no other affects. No apparent problem with heat. Listed as Three-L brand.

Did you find the high beams were improved? I drive a lot in the country and am not ectremely impressed; lows are fine though.

Yes, high beam range is very impressive.
