Hi there, I have a 1991 mazda mpv with 106k on the 3.0 V6. The van runs great from all aspects (no overheating, unexplainable coolant loss, no loss of power, etc.) Yesterday my friend noticed some smoke coming from the tailpipe when I started it up, the smoke lasted for a few minutes (temp outside was prob. 40-50 degrees) then it went away. It does this most mornings and may last for 10 minutes or so and then there will be no smoke at all. (note: during that time there is quite a a bit of lifter/valve noise which almost completely goes away when the vehicle is all warmed up. We did an impromptu blockchek mostly just for him to show me how it works (he is a automotive student and bought it for home use) After about 30sec-45 sec. the fluid turned a slight shade of green (not yellow at all). We continued to pump the fluid and it did not change after that. I have not had any other symptoms of anything being wrong with this vehicle so I am hoping someone can help me understand what this result may mean. My friend suggests the head gasket/s are shot and that I should stop driving the vehicle immediately until it is repaired. I do not have the money to do that right now and I am a little skeptical of his diagnosis only because the van is running so well and because he is not an experienced mechanic. If it is the head gasket, I would assume that I am catching at a somewhat earlier stage. If so, can I use some sort of sealer like blue devil block sealer to avert this for a little while? Your help is most appreciated!!! chris Thanks, Chris 404-388-0070
