Have you looked at the Miata classifieds? http://www.miata.net/classified/hardtops.html
I bought mine there last year and certainly have not regretted it. Especially now with snow and cold.

well, thanks for replying, the site looks good. several practical questions on the subject:
1) did it really do any good, buying it? the heating system in the miata is fabulous anyway, so it must have been all about highway windnoise, or anything else? did the noise vanish completely? any other side
2) did you get your own color or had to repaint it? should i wait till i see the right color (black), or should I go ahead with anything and have it repainted? but then I 'll end up spending as much all together as the new one costs (around 1500?)
thank you in advance.

And several practical answers: :-)

1) Yes it was a good buy. Not so much for heat management or noise or stability, but due to wet snow build-up. My car is an outside car. That is, no garage. We have been known to have some pretty heavy wet snows and I don't want to go out an clear the top every now and then. As far as noise goes, it isn't a quiet as a coupe, but not as noisy as with the rag top either.

2) Mine was black and I had it painted to match the car. I don't know exactly how much extra the top cost because I had it painted when the bumper covers were repaired. I would guess about $300. That would make the cost of the top, painting, latches and Frankenstein bolts (99's don't come with them) would be about $1400 total. New tops are $1500 only when bought WITH A CAR! After purchase cost for a factory hardtop is $2500!!

One of the best investments I ever made.

Thank you, that was VERY informative. I am considering bying it now, although should have looked into it last summer. Mine will also have to be painted black, it is also a street car and thus the bumper will have to be repainted as well (those terrible scratches from cars parked behind)... only we don't get as much of snow here in DC, so there is a lot in common! I do want to get the HT bec. my travel is mostly long distance on the weekends, and going 70-80 mph its becoming way too noisy inside the car with the ST. I hear from the forum it squeaks a lot sometimes, but understand its a matter of fine-tuning the latches...
well, thanks and happy motoring!

This is really ironic. I bought the hardtop in DC this past fall!

There are some squeaks especially when the temperature differential is high (warm and toasty inside, cold and brutal outside). But it's not unpleasant. The only real noise I get because of the top is some wind noise right behind the windows. But I've learned to live with it. :)
