Following the trials and tribulations of the Tribute club owners and in inflexability of the local Mazda dealers I have decided to skip the pleasure/trials of owning a Tribute. A new QX4 now occupies the garage instead.

Good luck, sounds like you'll need it.

you could have saved 4-5 thousand by going for the nissan pathfinder LE - they are basically identical.

Good luck to you, too.

Just make sure that your QX4 has been properly repaired under their current recall. These vehicles may have an ignition lock assembly with improperly seated key cylinder cap connector pins. Vibration can cause the connecting pins to loosen and/or fall out allowing the key cylinder cap to disengage from the key cylinder.

If this occurs, the steering wheel lock rod can move, which could lock the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

On the outside I agree that they are semilar.
Tried the pathfind LE and the QX4 the same day, not the same ride, handing or sound level. The QX4 was much easier to drive and a great deal less nosy. The difference in price at the final analysis was only about a grand for a lot more features, and much better service.

How much did you pay for the Infiniti? I know a loaded QX4 can easily top $40,000.

I think you jumped ship too quick. After working out early-build bugs, the Escape/Tribute should be a very reliable, trouble-free SUV.

Personally, I'd never pay $40K for a truck.

Paid 32K including the grand for Infiniti loyalty. The vehicle we picked, because it had the factory installed towing package, had been on the lot since September. We were the only ones in the showroom last night and ended up getting out of there after 10.

You might be right about jumping ship early, but I needed the towing capacity now, not six months to a year down the road.

Needless to say what one pays for a vehicle is each person decision. I have a great deal of trouble paying a premium over MSRP for a trouble ridden product run. In the long run I believe the Tribute/Escape platform will be successful as it is currently popular.

Hope you enjoy yours and it is trouble free.

Yes....and also there is another one for leaking wheel cylinders on the rear where you could loose fluid. The Pathfinder which I "assume" the QX4 would have has a wiring harness on the front left side to be checked after 3-4,000 miles for exposed wires from the insulating cover on the harness rubbing where it goes into the side of the body. Somehow they didn't put a rubber sleeve in to prevent this. If you'll remember my neighbor bought a Pathfinder is how I found out....bob
