I was just wondering, the manual says to use 87 octane gas, is that what you guys are using?

I just got my Platinum Tribute ES 4x2, with Luxury, ABS, and Tow (no choice) package yesterday. I like it so far! I just gotta get use to driving up so high. Quite a change from driving a sports coupe for 8 years.

Oh yah, does anyone in here get that Perimeter Alarm option (PAL)? If so, what does it really do? i'm thinking of having it installed ($195 w/ labor here in Honolulu) or to just get an aftermarket alarm system.

zoom zoom zoom

The manual states to use 87 octane from a national supplier. It specifically states to not use higher octane gasolines. I'm sticking with 87.

The perimeter alarm: I did not get one, but if I did I would go with the Mazda one because if anything goes wrong down the road Mazda can't say it was due to the aftermarket alarm system. Just my opinion.

bachelor808,
I have the Perimeter Alarm and it is a very simple system. Basically, the system is armed by locking the doors when the car is off. If someone tries to open the doors, the horn honks and the lights flash. There are no motion sensors, glass break sensors etc.

An aftermarket system would be better but don't expect Mazda to help you if you have a problem. Also the manual clearly states that Mazda's code key system is not compatible with aftermarket remote starting systems.

I hope this helps.
