Front Seat Shelf Must Go - But How?

Own a 2003 MPV needs that shelf out of there! I think I could use just the empty space much better than the shelf that's in the way both when it's up and when it's folded down. Does it "snap" out? Do I need to remove the passenger seat to find how it's fastened? I'm thinking this must have been done thousands of times already, so how do I de-install the shelf?
