Completed the install of the Donnelly mirror w/ map light, compass, & temp. I got it from www.visionviewmirrors.com, because Donnelly doesn't offer it yet on their web site.

I really like the mirror, it looks great, works like a charm. A little pricey at $250, but I believe well worth it.

I routed the wiring toward the passenger side and tapped off the top cigar lighter. Also sent the temp sensor wire out the gromet for the antena wire. That gromet is relatively soft and pulls out toward the inside of cabin....

Happy Zooming and
God Bless America,
Greg

How long did it take to install? On a 1-10 scale, how difficult do you think it would be for a nit-wit?
fyi for others: Escape-Parts.com has an OEM mirror that is just the compass and auto-dimming for $130.00 (http://www.autotrucktoys.com/stores/showdetl.cfm?&DS_ID=2&Product_ID=\ 1025&DID=8)

My Chrysler van has the Temp and map lights, so I really got spoiled and missed those features w/ the Trib, so I was waiting for a mirror w/ all the features.

As far as level a difficulty, it's definitely above nit-wit level. Although different type of work it compares in level of difficulty to say changing brakes or spark plugs.

If you have doubts or haven't tackled anything of that level, I think the installation is between $70 - $100. It's a least a 5-6 hr job if you do it slowly.

Here'e what needs to be done:
1. remove glovebox by pushing in sides, pulling it out, then remove the 2 small bolts at the base.
2. remove old mirror by putting a small screwdriver between the button and the mirror at the bottom and push the mirror from the bottom.
3. remove visor screws, visor hold screw, overhead console screws, A pillar hold bar screws.
4, pull the A bar weather striping away from the door; pull the A pillar metal strip away by wedging a screwdrive between it and the pillar.
5. remove the wire from the cigar lighter by pressing yellow part that's snap-locking it in. If you can't see the snap lock twist it until you can...
6. Pull the antenna wire gromet from the inside where the antenna wire exits. It's in there pretty snug and you can barely reach it with your fingers. Removing the plastic panel beneath it is a must.

After all this is removed just follow the Donnelly instructions, they are generic, fishing the wires and connecting things up. The HOT wire on the cigar wire is the white stripped wire and NOT the black wire.

Good Luck and
God Bless America,

Greg

P. S. One thing you come away with after digging through the Trib is how well this bugger is really built. The Trib has a about a 1 inch structural member that runs the length of the dash with cross braces attached to it and some heavy duty sound insulation in the lower floor/firewall, etc.

That's good news Greg. Did you try building the V-inverter and hooking up Rev Inhibit? Where did you mount the Temp Sensor?

Didn't tackle the Rev Inhibit.... maybe some day.

On thhe Temp Sensor, I ran the wire from behind the opening of the front tow hooks and then clipped the temp sensor to outward part of a plastic wind deflector. This piece is in back of the plastic bumper but a little ahead of the tow hook.

I secured it high up so nothing could scrape against it from the bottom.

It seems to be a temp neutral area.... some snow or slush could collect there I suppose.

Regards,
Greg

Greg,

I'm having the monochromatic mirror (name?) installed today on my Tribute. It is supposed to dim the headlights behind you and provide a compass, and temp readout. (I had one of these on my Explorer and loved it. They told me it was an option I could add at the dealer, so they are installing it for $300.00 total.) Is this the same mirror you are talking about?

~Sharyn
