I had the same situation. The manager of the service dept. told me that it is only covered under warranty if they can't tell how it got broken. If they can tell it was a rock.. not covered.

I think a rock hit the corner of the lens so it was not obvious it was a rock. They have ordered a replacement. Based on what he said they may be replacing the entire lamp not just a lens.

I have already placed an order for the lens/headlight protection.

My tribute had the same exact broken fog light you mentioned. I don't think this is a coincendence. My dealer also said it was not covered under warranty. Personally I think, the severe cold weather (like this past winter) caused the light to break. When it is turned on the heat and the cold caused the glass to crack and fracture. I think it's a faulty fog light. Anyone have the same happened to them? Please reply.

I disagree. 100% sure stone chips caused the crack.

The only way a glass lens like this would crack would be if you had a huge temperature differential in a matter od minutes..temp goes from -40F to 80F . Next to impossible unless they are doing controlled vehicle validation tests.

The foglamp lens is glass, just like your windshield. your winshield would've cracked in similar fashion.

By the way..replacement foglamp is $83 from trussvillemazda.com, but only $63 (+$5 ship) from Mazdastuff.com

I disagree with you on this. Temperature difference did cause the glass to break and fracture. The fractures were not ones from that of rocks or pebbles. The temp at the time this occured was aproximately -20F. I assume, when the fog light is switched on, it would produce enough heat to cause the glass to crack. Don't you think there is enough temp change for this to happen?

Its more likely the impact from running over a pothole than temperature. The glass, lamp housing and bumper structure design together caused glass breakage.

Oh come on give me a break. How can a fog light break if the bumper has had no scratches whatsoever. How do you explain three different owners having the same drivers side fog light broken? The fractures are from the center or middle of the light outward. It wasn't just a nick on a corner of the glass. I guess I should've taken a picture of my broken fog light before I replaced it myself. The dealer was talking $198.00 for parts and labor.
