While the article is informative, as well as a plug for AMSOIL's other products, it fails to convince me.. It does not mention how long a typical engine should last while using Ford's recommended oil - assuming it does fail prematurely. If it fails within the first 3 years, of course, that's Ford/Mazda's problem. After 5 years, I'm not too concerned since most people don't keep vehicles that long anyway. So if it fails in the 3-5 year range, that'd be my only cause for concern. Then it still could be Ford/Mazda's problem. If they knowingly recommended a product that causes a motor to fail, I think Ford will have more problems than some bunk tires to deal with.<br><br>The article also states:<br>"Therefore, 5W-20 has absolutely no benefit to you, the customer, other than to make you have to buy their expensive Motorcraft oil ..."<br>There are other alternatives - Pennzoil,Mobil..<br><br><br><br><br>That's what I think.

Interesting.....Some may remember when Ford and Mazda said the engine cannot have NON Dino oil too....now ironically ford puts out a "blend" specially formulated for our engine. I don't buy it either....Just looking inside my 92 Mazda B2600i 4x4 would sell ANYONE just removing the oil cap and seeing the inside literally SHINE like new with 82,000 miles. I was "sold" on non dino oil when my new 96 Mazda 626 V6 with Hydrolic Lash Adjusters..HLA's tapped and Mazda's fix was putting in ATF ....I WAS only using the dealer Castrol oil because it was free. Put in Mobil 1 and NEVER experienced it again. <br><br>bob

Speaking of ATF, here is a Genuine Old Timer Tip: Want to really clean up your engine, add a quart of ATF 100 miles before oil change (works best on older cars that are a qrt low -- ie don't over fill your crankcase. Also ATF works great in manual trannies, low viscosity, hi shear index. I ran it in a Volvo P1800 4spd with electronic OD for years -- shifted much easier & never had any tranny problems

The detergent in the ATF can cause older vehicles to begin to leak......Though I do agree it does flush out rather well...there is a caution not to do it on older vehicles. To clean those older ones.....I REMEMBER when they used to add an oz. of diesel to the crankcase....talk about loud. Then again it was on ole' international scouts not tributes.
